what we treat

Rheumatological Conditions

(e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis…)

Previous experience working within the Rheumatology team of an Acute Hospital developed a solid knowledge base and patient management experience, tailoring the Physiotherapy programme accordingly.

Back pain

Up to 60% of people will experience low back pain during their lifetime. Many possible causes such as degenerative/arthritis, disc herniation, post trauma and may or may not include nerve pain such as sciatica. Building on a thorough assessment, an individualised treatment plan to minimise pain, restore movement, minimise deconditioning and return to function. Treatment would always be tailored to the individual, incorporating their own needs/abilities and capabilities.

Neck pain

Up to 70% of people will suffer from neck pain. There are many potential causes, these may include degenerative / Osteoarthritis, Whiplash, postural, muscular among many others. In the acute phase timely Physiotherapy intervention is key to minimise pain, restore movement, minimise deconditioning and return to function. Treatment would always be tailored to the individual, incorporating their own needs/abilities and capabilities.

Arthritis

Despite many people’s concerns regarding damaging the joints with movement and exercise, joints are designed to move and failure to do so can lead with progressive weakening of the surrounding muscles. Physiotherapy is key in providing suitable advice, mobilisation to improve joint movement and rehabilitation programmes to improve function longer term. This is particularly important when waiting for joint replacement surgery, maximising function pre surgery is hugely beneficial for post-surgery prognosis/outcomes.

Musculoskeletal / Sports Injuries

These can involve injuries to the muscles. (strains, tears), ligaments (Sprains, ruptures), tendons (tendonitis/Tendinopathies) and bones. A thorough initial assessment enables a targeted treatment and rehabilitation plan. Drawing on experience working with elite and recreational athletes, sports teams, young athletes, and military personnel this may involve manipulation / mobilisation techniques, soft tissue release, sporting technique assessment, a targeted strengthening programme specific to the patient and a planned structured return to sports participation.

Pre & Post Surgery rehabilitation

(e.g. Joint replacement surgery, ligament reconstruction / stabilisation, Spinal surgery…)

Implementing the correct post operative management of a patient is key for optimal patient outcome. Extensive previous experience treating patients immediately post-op as in-patients and following this through to their return to sport / function informs an evidence based and patient centred rehabilitation.

Gait analysis / Biomechanics Assessment

As individuals we all move uniquely, there is no one size fits all. An individualised Gait / Biomechanical assessment informs / highlights the needs of the individuals future Physiotherapy treatment / rehabilitation programme. Previous experience working with elite and recreational athletes, sports teams, children, and military personnel enables a wide variety of approaches / interventions to achieve the goal of full pain free function.

Work related conditions / Ergonomic Advice

Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI), Postural advice/treatment, Advice regarding equipment/workplace set up.

Strength and Conditioning

Completing a degree in Sports Science prior to studying Physiotherapy provides a solid theoretical and practical foundation in strength and conditioning, built upon with the current evidence and integrated it into the patients’ goals and needs.

Athletic screening / Injury Prevention

Prevention will always be better than cure. Conducting an athlete / sport specific athletic screening enables a targeted training and conditioning programme, reducing potential risk factors for injury.
